The “hells” (jigoku) of Beppu are nine spectacular hot springs for viewing rather than bathing. Seven of the hells are located in the Kannawa district and two in the more remote Shibaseki district. The Chinoike Jigoku or ‘blood pond hell’ features a pond of hot, red water. It is the most photogenic of the nine hells.

Once upon a time there was a young lady with too much to say. She much more freetime than used, for most of her days she spent reading a webcomic called Homestuck or watching television programs called Doctor Who or Sherlock. She knew her way around the strange show called Supernatural, and could be caught pairing a certain angel with a certain young man named Dean. Her feeling were strong and she expressed them quite frequently with random letters and squealing. This story's dragged on, and I must bid ye well. But I warn you, strange things do lie 'round this corner.
